Heaviest rain and wave of floods, the largest that hit Serbia in the last thousand years, unprecedented in the history of the Republic of Serbia, struck the country on 15 May. Due to catastrophic situation in the country, the Government of the Republic Serbia has introduced a state of emergency. One-third of the territory of the whole country is flooded, the towns, villages, roads and bridges have disappeared under the water, and some cities have been completely evacuated. Tens of thousands of people lost their homes and everything they had. In this severe situation, more that 30 thousand people were evacuated from affected areas (among them thousands of children) by prompt organization and actions of the Government of Serbia and extraordinary efforts of Serbian people. The evacuation is still going on. Serbian army, police, firefighters and thousands of volunteers have been participating the rescue operations since the beginning of the disaster. Many countries have sent their rescue teams, humanitarian assistance - helicopters, boats, blankets, food, baby food and clothing, water, tents, beds and donations etc. As a result of this coordinating action, the number of victims is reduced. Material damage caused by the disaster in Serbia is huge, and its size is yet to be determined. Bearing in mind that flood wave has been threatening the vital infrastructure facilities in Serbia, including water pipelines and power plants, there is high possibility of shortages of water and electricity. Any humanitarian assistance is highly appreciated.
WAYS YOU CAN SEND HUMANITARIAN AID:
1. For payments via PayPal service The PayPal account of the diplomatic mission of Serbia in Brussels is opened for donations, from where the funds will be sent directly to the account of the Republic of Serbia intended for the assistance to victims of floods. 6. For payments in Serbian Dinars (RSD): The Government of the Republic of Serbia has opened the following Dinar bank account - Removal of extraordinary circumstances of floods, 840-3546721-89; ***** Help to the "Red Cross" of Serbia "Red Cross" of the Republic of Serbia informed Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diplomatic Missions of the Republic of Serbia about the list of the urgently needed materials: mattresses, bed-clothes, demountable beds, toiletries (soap, toilet-paper, paper towels, wet tissues, sanitary napkins, toothbrushes, toothpastes etc), diapers for babies and adults, rubber boots, "Asepsol" for disinfection, bottled water, canned food. Serbian "Red Cross" has also made an appeal not to deliver the clothing, at this moment. Ministry of Transportation, Construction and Infrastructure of Serbia has informed that, due to the introduced state of emergency, transport of humanitarian aid to flooded areas will be exempted from the regime of multilateral and bilateral permits, and the vehicles with humanitarian aid can enter Serbia in accelerated procedure.
